Once A Single Speeder........

Single speeder since 1972! It was a good year.

This photo was from the local Bathurst paper The Western Advocate and I'm pretty sure it's the finish of a round of the state schoolboys champs. On the right chest of my jersey you can see 1971, so that's what I've used for the carbon date of 1972. The guy to my right is David Buttsworth, a good friend from the era.

The gearing rule for the age group was 81" single speed, or it could have been 79", one of those.

For those who know me now, this should make you smile. A photo from the same year taken at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast.

Awesome photos Mark. You've hardly changed a bit :)

What's with the elbow protection? Was that a standard thing? And didn't you care about your knees?

Elbow guards were compulsory back then. That design softened the initial impact but then spun around and left your elbow exposed. Think the open syle was eventually replaced with a closed in version.
